Mayoral Proclamation To Mark Food Pantry Milestone |
|

(Photo courtesy, The Star, Sun Prairie's Newspaper) Volunteer and Board Members for the Pantry receive Mayor Chase's Proclamation at the November 3rd City Council Meeting.
A note worthy event occurred in the month of October for the Sun Prairie Emergency Food Pantry. The Pantry hit the 1,000,000 pound mark in terms of food distributed to those in need since moving into Sunshine Place on April 1st of 2007!
Since moving to the Sunshine Place, Food Pantry volunteers have taken full advantage of the additional space and capacity to serve. Add to that the generosity of our community, and it is no wonder that we reached this milestone and the demand that goes along with it.
To mark this milestone, Mayor Chase made a proclamation at the November 3rd City Council meeting. Part of the proclamation is as follows:
“WHEREAS, to put into perspective, as of October 27, 2009, the Food Pantry has distributed over 1,000,000 pounds of food, which is equivalent to 800,000 meals to those in need in our community…”
“NOW, THEREFORE, I, Joe Chase, Mayor of the City of Sun Prairie, do acknowledge and thank the hundreds of volunteers who have donated thousands of hours expecting nothing in return except the satisfaction of knowing they are helping their neighbors in need and acknowledging that there is no reason that anyone in our Sun Prairie community should have to go to bed hungry at night…..”

Also part of this celebration was acceptance of a financial gift from Prairie Athletic Club. The Prairie Athletic Club held a fundraising campaign that was supported by it's members and staff on behalf of the Sun Prairie Emergenc Food Pantry. Jennifer Jungenberg from Prairie Athletic Club presented the Pantry with a check for $4,200. Jennifer shared that it was their goal with this fundraiser to give the Pantry a really good start to the year by providing this support at a time of the year that tends to be a little more sparse with donations. Thank you Prairie Athletic Club and it's members for your generosity and support!!
