Goal of 75,000 Pounds of Food Shattered!
The goal for this year’s challenge was 75,000 pounds of food. All of the participating schools exceeded this goal by more than 2,500 pounds for a grand total of 77,635 pounds!!
“The competition really heated up this year” according to Michelle Perko, who coordinated the event with the 7 participating schools. For each dollar donated, 8.75 pounds of food was added to the school’s total. Perko commented that, “Horizon was able to take the top spot from reigning champions, Sacred Hearts, with a $3,465.92 donation made possible by a fierce in-school penny war." Michelle further added, "The support for the Food Pantry really is awe inspiring.”
Finishing in a strong second was Sacred Hearts, followed by Creekside in 3rd and C.H. Bird rounding out the top 4. What is also noteworthy is that Creekside was a first time participant in the School Challenge and Westside’s donation of 1,186 pounds of food was among the top 3 schools, excluding financial donations. Eastside also finished strong by collecting more than 3 and half times more than the previous year. Likewise, Royal Oaks almost doubled their contribution from last year.
Final results from all participating schools are as follows:

Many Thanks!!
Mark Thompson, President of the Food Pantry Board added, “We can’t thank the schools enough for their support of the Food Pantry. Because of these schools our shelves have been replenished, which will help us through what is always a busy time of year for the Food Pantry." Mark Thompson further shared, "Once again, the Bank of Sun Prairie has made this event such a huge success by providing the donation bags and $2,500.00 in prize money for the top 4 schools."
Thompson shared, "It is great to see the kids get so involved in such a worthy cause and we understand the behind the scenes support of parents and teachers alike is the backbone of this effort.” "And speaking of backbones, a special thanks to all the adult volunteers that gave up the majority of their day to unload, weigh, sort and stack all the donations. This is truly a community effort and it is simply Sun Prairie at its best!”
